The Path to Forgiveness

Jacob wrestled God

left with a limp

and who counts the cost?

Maybe forgiveness can’t be rushed

and journeys have holding rooms.

To rise above requires time below.

Holding hands with discomfort

burning and squirming

becoming a bedfellow to chaos.

Rising takes wrestling.

Wrestling builds strength.

Climbing costs our pride

as finger holds, shaking toes

save lives and find new purpose.

Visible scars create new topography

while invisible tangle heart strings.

The path to forgiveness is for those who choose

to wrestle God.
